Secure Ambulance Transport

Safe and dignified transport with mental health in mind

At Amvale Scotland, we provide safe, dignified and compassionate Secure Mental Health Transport for individuals requiring specialist support. Whether travelling to or from hospitals, the community, or specialist units, our priority is always the wellbeing, dignity and safety of every person in our care.

Our teams are trained to support – not control – patients, helping to build trust and positive relationships throughout the journey. This person‑centred approach ensures that every transfer is handled with respect, empathy and professionalism, contributing to a calmer, more comfortable experience for all involved.

We recognise that the quality of our care relies on the skills and confidence of our staff. That’s why we place such a strong emphasis on industry‑leading training and ongoing development.

RESPECT‑Accredited Training: For long‑term contracts, our staff have access to in‑house RESPECT Instructors—training accredited by BILD (British Institute of Learning Disabilities). This specialist programme focuses on safer handling, including the appropriate use of soft cuff restraint systems within an in‑depth, accredited training framework.

A Person-Centred Approach

We are firmly committed to the principles of the Restraint Reduction Network and ensure all staff receive BILD recognised training
We’re firmly committed to…
  • Avoiding re-traumatisation

  • Developing safe and caring environments

  • Building trust with our patients and customers

  • Seeing the person and not just their condition

  • Supporting safe choices to increase safety

Customers should be advised that:

  • We do not use ‘caged’ vehicles
  • All patients will require a full risk assessment to be completed prior to being transported
  • Patient handover must be conducted inside the collection unit and not outside of the building
  • It is our policy to request that your staff accompany any wait and return journeys (eg. for hospital appointments).

Soft Secure Ambulances

Skilled in Safe, Compassionate Intervention: Our staff are trained in de‑escalation, calming strategies and non‑restrictive techniques that prioritise safety for everyone involved. They learn to support patients through challenging moments rather than relying on control‑based methods.

Soft Cuff Restraint Expertise: When restraint is necessary, we use a tough cloth soft‑cuff system—designed to be more humane and less intrusive while still ensuring safety. All staff are trained in its safe and appropriate use as part of their detailed training programme.

My father was transported from a Glasgow hospital to his new home in Wiltshire.
I apologise I don't have the names of the paramedics who facilitated the transfer, but they were outstanding in their professionalism, compassion and good humour.
He was so well looked after throughout the journey, and even enjoyed a sleep on the chair that folds down to a substantial bed in the back of the ambulance.
Having considered alternatives (plane, train, private vehicle) for this 500 mile journey, this was definitely the best choice, and I am very grateful to the team and the company for getting my father to me in a timely manner and in good form. Thankyou.

The hospital was unable to provide an ambulance to take my brother in law home. He was getting palliative care and time was short. I contacted Amvale and Joe managed to get a crew together within a couple of hours. The 2 staff who transfered my brother in law were amazing. Our family and support staff can't thank them enough. Colin passed away within a few hours at home with his sister by his side. Thank you.

Amvale Glasgow

Excellent 5 day course from start to finish. It was at times overwhelming with the amount of information the course contained but it was very well run and structured. We had the best trainer (Stevie McKenzie ) who broke it down and made it easier to process and digest. His very realistic approach when it came to the practical training was vital for me as it showed me the fast pace I’d be expected to work at as a first responder.
By the end of the course I had gained the knowledge and practice I needed to have the confidence in my abilities. I got on really well with fellow students on the course. We bonded instantly and worked well together as a team.
I would highly recommend this 5 day course regardless of experience or knowledge.
All the staff at the Amvale Glasgow training centre are so welcoming, friendly, approachable and supportive.
Big thanks to Andrew Short and Melissa who are lovely, friendly and happy to answer any queries relating to the course.

Highly Recommend Amvale Scotland a superb service.
We used Amvale for private ambulance transport for my elderly mother from Scotland to England, Borders General Hospital to Solihull care home.
My mum felt safe on what was a very long journey well cared for by trained professional staff. So glad we used Amvale in transporting such a precious cargo.

From my first call to the safe delivery of my mum from Dumfries hospital to Leeds, Andrew was very helpful and gave me the confidence my 91 old mother would be in very safe hands. The ambulance arrived as promised and my mother was full of praise at how well she had been treated and delivered to her assisted flat. I was given a breakdown of timings with the crew calling me when they were 30 minutes away. The price was very reasonable and I have nothing but praise for the first class service. Would tell anyone looking for a private ambulance to use this service!
